Fractional Laser
What is fractional laser?
Fractional laser is a state-of-the-art laser device used for skin rejuvenation. Due to its high therapeutic efficacy and minimal side effects, fractional laser has become the most preferred treatment method in recent years. Fractional laser is one of the most effective methods used to treat acne scars, scars, wrinkles, facial sagging, and stretch marks.
How does fractional laser work?
Fractional laser affects both the upper and lower layers of the skin. In fractional laser systems, the laser light creates tiny channels in the skin, triggering new collagen formation in these areas. The advantage of this method is that damage to the skin is minimal because healthy skin remains intact around the tiny damaged areas. As a result, the skin heals much faster, and the risk of side effects from the laser is reduced.
What is the fractional laser method used for?
- Skin rejuvenation (wrinkle treatment, sagging skin treatment)
- Acne scar treatment
- Stretch mark treatment
- Scar treatment
- Hyperpigmentation treatment
How effective are fractional lasers?
Fractional lasers can help reduce mild to moderate wrinkles, age spots, and superficial acne and scarring. They can also improve the appearance of deep wrinkles, age spots, and scars.
How is fractional laser treatment performed, and how many sessions are required? Is it painful?
Fractional laser treatments are performed in sessions. Each session typically lasts 15–30 minutes. Depending on the nature of the condition, treatment may require at least 3–5 sessions, spaced 3–8 weeks apart. Some patients may experience discomfort during the procedure. This sensation can be easily alleviated with the use of a topical anesthetic cream or cooling devices.
What can be expected after fractional laser treatments?
Mild redness and swelling may occur after the procedure. You may notice slight peeling and changes in skin color. However, these symptoms typically subside within 3 to 7 days.
Who should not undergo fractional laser treatment?
- People with active skin infections or inflammation
- People who have used systemic isotretinoin within the last 6 months
- Pregnant women
How long does fractional laser treatment affect work and social life?
You can return to work and social life immediately after non-ablative fractional laser treatments. Ablative fractional laser treatments cause redness and peeling for 5–10 days. You can return to work and social life by using concealer.
What precautions should be taken after fractional laser treatment?
Post-procedure symptoms are mild and temporary. A sunburn-like sensation may be felt for about an hour after the procedure. Makeup can be applied after treatment. Light moisturizers can be applied after fractional laser treatment. If swelling occurs on the face, cooling with ice packs may be helpful. Sun exposure should be avoided for 6–12 months after fractional laser treatment, and sunscreen should be used.
Are there any side effects of fractional laser treatment?
The incidence of side effects is quite low. In rare cases, temporary or permanent discoloration, acne, or reactivation of herpes (cold sores) may occur in individuals who have previously had a herpes infection.
When do the results of fractional laser treatment become visible?
Collagen production begins after the third month. The best results of the procedure become apparent 6–12 months later.
Can fractional laser treatment sometimes be ineffective?
If there are significant concerns regarding wrinkles, scars, and sagging, 3–4 sessions may not be sufficient. Increasing the number of sessions and combining the treatment with other therapies enhances effectiveness. Combining fractional laser with skin-rejuvenating methods such as PRP, mesotherapy, fillers, and radiofrequency can improve the effectiveness of treatments for scars, wrinkles, and sagging.
