Brain Surgery Through the Nose
Nasal brain surgery is a minimally invasive method known in medical literature as endoscopic endonasal surgery. In this technique, surgeons perform the operation by reaching the base of the brain using a thin camera (endoscope) inserted through the nostrils and specialized surgical instruments.
Thus, treatment of pituitary gland tumors, certain brain base tumors, and cysts can be achieved without the need for large incisions in the skull. Thanks to this method, patients generally experience lower postoperative pain, a reduced risk of infection, and a shorter recovery period, while their hospital stay can also be shortened. Today, it is applied using a multidisciplinary approach in which brain surgery and ear, nose, and throat surgery work together.
